Lacrosse rebounders come in various shapes and sizes, with different weights depending on the team and the individual. Some teams use more lightweight players that don’t have to carry their own rebounder, while others prefer heavier players that are willing to carry the extra weight. As a general rule of thumb, however, rebounds should always be carried on your body or in a specially designed bag to prevent injury. They are also small enough to fit into standard lacrosse equipment bags so they can travel easily from game to game or practice session back and forth.
Rebounder Weight
Considering how much you are willing to carry around varies according to the gender, age and position of the players, but the difference in rebounder weights is minimal. The average, female-sized lacrosse rebounder weighs between 3 and 4 pounds while men will average anywhere between 6 and 8 pounds. The biggest difference between the two is that most male-sized lacrosse rebounds are wider due to their larger size.
Rebounder Material
The majority of rebounds are made from either plastic or metal, which is predominantly because of their durability. Plastic is lighter in weight, but heavier in price while metal is very durable and can withstand any abuse you throw at it.
Rebounding Interference
Rebounding interference refers to the presence or lack of a blind-fold for your rebounder when you are holding it. While most players will use a blind-fold to protect themselves from stray stick or ball contact, it is important to note that the blind-fold might prevent the ball from rebounding back to your stick and onto the field of play thereby wasting valuable possession time.
Rebounder Length
The longer the rebounder, the further back you will be able to drive it, but that’s not always a good thing. A foot or two of extra length means more weight on the front end and could knock your stick out of position while you are trying to scoop up a ground ball.
Clamp Size and Number
The number of clamps at the top of your rebounder will determine how much weight it can handle before it falls over on its side or topples over completely. Most are designed with three clamps, which are strong enough to hold a 400-gram shot-filled lacrosse ball as well as a plastic water bottle filled with sand. There are some rebounders that have as many as eight clamps and can hold up to 1,000 grams.
Additional Features
Some rebounders have special additions that allow you to carry other items on your throwback stick as well such as a water bottle holder, small towel holder and tape measure. These extra accessories might come in handy during a game or practice where you need an item just one more time.
